Challenge programmes

Commissiona Challenge

We connect organisations facing real-world challenges with builders developing innovative technology solutions. Through structured innovation programmes, we help turn complex problems into opportunities for discovery, testing and commercial adoption.

The Opportunity

Innovation should solve problems, not just generate ideas.

Organisations across the Caribbean face complex operational, commercial and regional challenges. Finding the right solution can require specialist expertise, new technologies and collaboration across different industries and markets.

Future Caribbean Challenges provides a structured way to bring these elements together. By defining a clear problem and inviting builders to develop solutions, organisations can explore new approaches, evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities worth pursuing.

Solve meaningful problems

Focus innovation efforts on specific business needs, operational bottlenecks and measurable outcomes.

Discover new talent and technology

Engage builders, technical specialists and innovators working on emerging solutions.

Explore solutions in practice

Evaluate working demonstrations and approaches against defined requirements rather than relying on ideas alone.

Create a pathway to adoption

Identify promising solutions for further testing, paid pilots and potential implementation.

The Challenge Lifecycle

From a defined problem to a solution worth pursuing.

Every challenge starts with a real need. Future Caribbean helps structure the process of bringing that need to the right builders, evaluating the solutions and identifying opportunities for what comes next.

  1. 01

    Define the challenge

We work with your organisation to understand the problem, identify the desired outcomes and establish clear criteria for success. This creates a focused challenge brief that gives builders a meaningful problem to solve.

Outcome: A defined problem, objectives and evaluation criteria.

  2. 02

    Mobilise the builders

We structure the challenge and engage relevant builders, technical partners and advisors through the Future Caribbean network. Participants receive the challenge brief, submission requirements and timeline.

Outcome: A clearly defined opportunity for relevant builders to participate.

  3. 03

    Build and develop

Builders develop and refine their proposed solutions against the challenge requirements. Depending on the programme, participants may have access to technical resources, expert guidance, workshops or other support.

Outcome: Proposed solutions or working demonstrations for evaluation.

  4. 04

    Evaluate the solutions

Submissions are assessed against agreed criteria, which may include relevance to the problem, technical feasibility, usability and potential business value. Demonstrations and expert evaluation help identify the solutions most worth pursuing.

Outcome: An evaluated set of submissions and a shortlist of promising solutions, where appropriate.

  5. 05

    Explore implementation

Where a solution demonstrates strong potential, the next step may be a paid pilot, further technical validation or a commercial deployment plan. Future Caribbean can help assess the pathway from demonstration to real-world use.

Outcome: A defined next step for suitable solutions, subject to buyer interest, readiness and agreement.

The Value

A structured programme. Tangible outcomes.

Future Caribbean helps your organisation move from an identified problem to an organised process for discovering and evaluating potential solutions.

  1. 01

    A clear challenge brief

A defined problem statement, objectives, scope and criteria for evaluating proposed solutions.

  2. 02

    Builder engagement

A structured process for attracting and coordinating relevant builders and technical contributors.

  3. 03

    Structured evaluation

An organised approach to reviewing submissions and assessing solutions against agreed criteria.

  4. 04

    Solution demonstrations

An opportunity to review proposed solutions and working demonstrations produced through the programme.

  5. 05

    A shortlist of opportunities

Where appropriate, an identified set of promising solutions for further assessment and discussion.

  6. 06

    A pathway forward

A basis for deciding whether to pursue further testing, a paid pilot or potential implementation.

Programme scope, deliverables, technical resources and evaluation arrangements are agreed with each commissioning organisation.

From Innovation to Adoption

The goal isn't just a winning pitch. It's a solution that works.

A challenge can reveal promising ideas and technologies. But the real opportunity begins when a solution is ready to be tested against the needs of an actual customer.

Future Caribbean connects challenge programmes to a broader commercialisation and deployment pathway. Where there is a strong fit, promising solutions can be considered for further technical validation, paid pilots and potential commercial adoption.

Assess readiness

Evaluate the solution's fit with the problem, technical maturity and practical requirements for implementation.

Explore a pilot

Where a buyer is interested and the solution is suitable, define a scoped pilot with clear responsibilities, costs and success measures.

Evaluate commercial potential

Assess results, customer value and delivery requirements to determine whether further deployment or expansion makes sense.

Not every challenge submission will progress to implementation. Further work depends on solution readiness, buyer demand, available resources and mutually agreed commercial terms.

Build with Purpose

Put your skills to work on real-world problems.

Future Caribbean Challenges connects builders with defined problems and opportunities to develop relevant technology solutions.

Explore open challenges, understand the requirements and submit your solution where your skills and product align with the opportunity.

What to expect:

  • A defined problem statement and challenge objectives.
  • Clear submission requirements and timelines.
  • Evaluation against the published criteria.
  • Information on any available resources, participation support and programme-specific opportunities.

Participation requirements and benefits vary by challenge. Submitting a solution does not guarantee funding, a customer contract, investment or selection for commercialisation.
